Greyia (/greyia/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Small Town located in Fortnågchÿhb Hold, Magan Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Greyia is derived from the Sylvin language, as Greyia was founded by Rancata Bawden, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Greyia has a yearly average temperature of 18°C (64°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 27°C (80°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 10°C (50°F). Greyia receives an average of 215 cm/y (84 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the fall. Greyia covers an area of nearly 3 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 2100 m (6889 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Greyia was founded durring the early 15th century in fall of the year 1425, by Rancata Bawden. The establishment of Greyia was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Rancata Bawden struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Greyia as a prison colony.

Greyia was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 15th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Greyia is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Greyia is buildings are arranged arround a network of crampt baked earthen streets which form a grid, where each square verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller square has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town has a defencive wall made from querried stone. The wall is equipped with a full set of battlments but the nature of its construction methodology leaves it somewhat vulnerable to siege equipment. That said, the town is well defended against anything short of an army. Unfortuantly, these cost-cutting-focused defences are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

Greyia has a very calm atmosphere. People can be seen relaxing, scocilizing, and going about all manner of business other than the daily grind. Men, women, children, all can be seen enjoying life in a laid-back way in the many parks which line Greyia’s streets. Yet, deep down, you know this atmosphere is a carefully created illusion. You can see the ocasional seam in their tapestry. You’re not sure what has them doing their best to act so carefree, but act carefree they do.

Civic Infrastructure

Greyia has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Greyia.

Greyia has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Greyia has a Guild of Nurses, which is tasked with caring for the elderly and infirm in accordance with local ordinances, religious values, and customs.

Greyia has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Greyia's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Greyia has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Greyia has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Greyia's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is which made use of the classical orders and mathematically precise ratios of height and width combined with a desire for symmetry, proportion, and harmony. It used columns, pediments, arches and domes are imaginatively in buildings of all types. Decorative features were seen as largely unnecessary as the sheer beauty of the structure itself was often close to art. However, many buildings with large ceiling spaces had their ceilings decorated with elaborate paintings, simply because the large flat spaces could feel wasted.

In Greyia it is impossible to directly or indirectly lie.

The Clawbat near Greyia are known to be quite timid.

Greyia's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in winter and involves creating small tokens to channel Enchantment energies of tier 2 via oath swearing.

Economy

Greyia is surrounded by dangerous terrain: miasmatic swamps, perilous crevasses, radioactive badlands, a pocket of or some other harmful topography. Greyia might prefer the defensive potential of the terrain here, or have found a precious resource worth the danger. The terrain might have formed at some time since the founding, with the citizens struggling to make terms with the new danger.

Greyia is known for its well built pedestrian paths, which include foot bridges to cross the main street at several high-traffic areas.

POI

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Greyia was attacked by savage tribes living nearby Greyia. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Greyia lost 280 people, 146 livestock, and 66 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 177, when members of Greyia's militia enacted an operation to train a specific solgiers group for an upcoming operation. The operation was complicated by aggravated civilians, who cause problems for the militia for a host of reasons. The conflict ended with pitched battle between both forces, which ended in victory for Greyia's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Greyia's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
